Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC)

Scholarship Details

This scheme is implemented by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India to provide financial assistance to children of Indian Workers in ECR countries and NRIs/PIOs/OCIs. The selected students will be awarded 75% of the Institutional Economic Cost (IEC), subject to a maximum of USD 4,000 per annum. All those students who desire to study under graduation courses from Indian Institute may apply.

Award

The selected students will receive financial assistance as given hereunder -

  • In the first year, partial financial assistance to the extent of 75% of the total Institutional Economic Cost (IEC) subject to a maximum of US$ 4,000 per annum whichever is less would be given to the applicants selected for the SPDC scheme. [Note - IEC includes tuition fee, hostel fee & other institutional charges (food charges are excluded)].
  • For second and subsequent years - The parameters for the continuation of scholarship to selected applicants for the second and subsequent years of study are as follows -
    • Students securing 50% and above marks in aggregate in an academic year with clear pass marks in all subjects of study, will be eligible to receive the maximum admissible. scholarship i.e. 75% of IEC or US$4,000 whichever is less in the following year of study.
    • Students, who secure less than 50% marks in aggregate in an academic year and have obtained clear pass marks in all subjects of study, will be eligible to receive 90% of the maximum admissible scholarship in the following year of study.
    • Students, who did not secure clear pass marks in all subjects but have been promoted by the Institute/University to the next academic year, will be eligible to receive 50% of the 14 maximum admissible scholarship in the following year of study.

[Note - The students, who have not been promoted to the next academic year by the Institute/University will not be eligible for a grant of any further scholarship.]

Eligibility
  • Applicants should be a Person of Indian Origin or Non-Resident Indian or Children of Indian Workers in ECR countries studying outside India or Children of Indian Workers in ECR countries studying in India.
  • The age of the seeker should be in between 17 to 21 years.
  • Must possess a 12th standard examination passing certificate with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
  • The annual income of the applicant’s family should not exceed US$ 5000.
  • Must have taken admission in undergraduate courses in Engineering, Technology, Humanities, Liberal, Arts, Commerce, Management, Journalism, Hotel Management, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and some other courses.
Documents Needed
  • Passport-size photograph.
  • Academic transcripts of marks/grades secured in classes 11 and 12 both.
  • PIO card or OCI card. 
  • Self-attested salary certificate of the parents.
  • Admission letter issued by the institution.

How To Apply
  • Visit the official website of the Ministry of External AffairsGovernment of India.
  • From the home page of the portal go to the consular service option available in the menu bar.
  • A further drop-down list will open where you have to go to the “Diaspora and migration issues” option.
  • The further list will open go to the Diaspora Engagement option and search “Scholarship Programmes for Diaspora Children” from the opened list.
  • Read the available information and look for the current guideline and application form link.
  • Click the link and a PDF file will open along with the detailed information.
  • Accumulate the details available in the PDF and select the apply link given under the how to apply section of the PDF.
  • A new web page will open from where you select the register option and the form will open.
  • Enter the details as asked in the application and complete the registration formalities.
  • Then fill out the application form with all the necessary information and upload the documents.
  • Submit the application form after reviewing the details in case no change is required in the form.
  • Remember to take a print of the application for further use in case it is required.
