Grace Groom Memorial Scholarship 2025

About

The Grace Groom Memorial Scholarship was established from a donation by Mental Health Australia Ltd in memory of Grace Groom. It provides financial support to international or domestic postgraduate students enrolled in study and research relating to mental health issues, with a focus on research that has meaningful and real application to the daily lives of people with mental illness and/or their carers. The scholarship is offered to students in any research program within the ANU College of Health and Medicine (CHM), encouraging impactful research in mental health.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Enrolled in a graduate research program offered within the ANU College of Health and Medicine.

  • Already undertaking study in a mental health-related field.

  • Applicants with lived experience of mental illness, including as a carer, are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

  • $5,000 per annum, offered as a once-off payment for the full value.

  • Funds can be used for equipment purchase, research study fees, research study-related travel expenses, fieldwork expenses (e.g., survey recruitment), textbooks, conference travel and associated accommodation and registration, or journal publication costs.

  • Funds cannot be used for stipend or salary.

  • Expenditure must be related to the applicant's program of research.

Application Process

Applications should be sent via email to philip.batterham@anu.edu.au. The application must include:

  • A statement briefly describing the applicant's research, how it will improve the lives of consumers and/or carers, how the scholarship would be used, and how this relates to the applicant's project.

  • A budget and budget justification endorsed by the applicant's supervisor.

  • The applicant's curriculum vitae.

  • A brief statement of support from the applicant's supervisor.
